Whenever a white person meets someone of a different ethnicity, they talk about every other person they know who shares an ethnic background with the person they just met.

This also applies to straight white people meeting a gay person. They'll talk about all the gay people they have met.

I don't think I do that to be honest... But race wasn't a well defined and utilized concept in Brazil, I mean, there isn't much cultural difference between different ethnicities or a noticeable amount of racial tension here, or at least there wasn't before the government started classifying everyone in the name of "racial justice"

Being an indian, in highschool, and one of the very few indians that lives in the area, This is beyond true. It mostly happens when people first meet me and ask what ethnicity I am. At least these are the polite ones. The racist ones just call me a terrorist. One of the many reasons I have very little hope for the future. It's not that bad because there aren't many racist people in my area but still, you think people would've learned to teach their kids a bouts racism. I've met a few older racist people too. Even had someone cuss me out once for walking IN A CROSSWALK, and not behind his car in a parking lot!

Unfortunately, it's totally true, hahaha... There's a bus tariff for whites, one for non whites. University access for whites, University access for non whites... I mean, I'm not saying Brazil was void of racial tensions back then, I used to beat up kids at school because they'd throw racial slurs at some of friends, but now I lost a major scholarship in medic school because I lack the amount of melanin required to enter, and that's bullshit.

Honestly, I think it only depends where you are. I went to a crappy middle school in a not-so-good neighborhood and I was constantly made fun of basically every day for being Chinese. I was freaking 11 or 12 or whatever, and I would get bullied with the words "chink"/"chino"/etc.

But whatever, my high school is ridiculously diverse and everyone seems to get along with each other. So yeah, I'd say it depends where you are, or what you're doing, or something.

Isn't it crazy how all people with white skin are exactly the same no matter what country, class, education level, language they speak, how they were raised, etc?

I mean, one time I saw a privileged young man from southern California who had his bachelors degree in physics have a conversation with a homeless guy from Russia who was just released from a Kazakhstan prison after 23 years, and they were basically the same person. Of course, living in a city with the second highest minority population in North America might have something to do with that.

We make light racial jokes all the time and no one bats an eye. Everyone I know makes fun of white people, even white people.
